Question

can anyone tell me [or where i can find info on] how to install win98 on a system running red hat linux 6.1. I've just installed red hat the default way using the gnome style installation and want to now have win98 installed on the same hard-disk. when installing red hat I made the three required partitions [16mb boot, 32mb swap and a 1500mb linux root]. I also made a 4th partition... 2200mb, >=32mb dos partition. I couldn't find any info on the dos partitions so I choose the >=32mb option as I have 32mb's of ram. Can I install win98 on this partition or must I scrub this partition and create a new one? If so how do I go about doing this? When I put the win98 cd in, I cannot get the setup file going [I have been doing this from gnome]. BTW I set the mount point for the Dos partition at /mnt/vfat after reading somewhere that 98 uses this place.

Thanks in advance.

ok here goes.By the way this will either work(if you do it
right or kill your partition )
in a term as root issue fdisk /dev/hda
the commands are 1 letter based eg: m=menu w= write
ok now issue the p command to print to screen your current partition table
locate the one marked >32M for windows.I hope its listed as a primary partition ie hda1->4 if its in extended you will have to delete it and create it as primary n=new d=delete
if its ok the issue the t for type and enter the partition # for the win partition(make shure its the win partition and not a linux one)It will ask you for a type or "L" for list of types.Just use "b" without quotes.now do another "p"
to print again. It should be now set to Win95 fat32 for windows. If it is ok the use "w" to write to disk and exit fdisk. If you panic at anytime dont wory nothing changes untill you issue "w" use ctrl z to quit at anytime without changing anything. Now reboot with a windows disk and format the new partition.Reboot and start installing windows.
P.S. make shure you have a WORKING boot disk for linux as win will wipe your MBR if you have lilo installed there.

Good Luck
