My Linux box don't mount automatically.

I try to mount manually:

# mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
mount: invalid major or minor number.

I try to remove /dev/fd0 and recreate using

# cd /dev; ./MAKEDEV b

but it still not working.

Helpppp!!!

TIA Paul

PS: Linux RedHat 7.0 with kernel 2.2.17

Do you run X, KDE 2.0?

If you do, then there is a GUI way to do it, which is the way I know.

Have you formatted the disk and put on a file system yet?

fdformat /dev/fd0H1440 'formats the disk
mke2fs -t /dev/fd0 'Created the file system
mount /dev/fd0 'mounts the floppy

Use the /mnt/floppy directory to access the contents after it's mounted. Hope this helps.

mount floppy

I.m not sure if this will answer you question but try this.
mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
This works for microsloth formatted disks.
then go to /mnt/floppy to view contents.
