Has anyone heard about Kylix? This is a port of Delphi (Object Pascal) to Linux. It uses Qt but will produce apps for Gnome, et all. I have been a Delphi coder since version 1.0 and have found it unbeatable for GUI based development. It is a true RAD tool and will be very familiar to VB coders. Very fast compile times (3,000,000 lines per minuet) native ELF and .so production. Form and Widget layout is drag and drop, WYSIWYG.
Kylix allows your code to compile on Windoz using Delphi 6, so anything you write runs on both platforms. The best part is that Borland is about to make 'Kylix Personal Edition' available for free download from their site (mid July). This version is restricted to GPL app development. They have introductory pricing on the Desktop version for the next month or so ($199US). This version and the Client/Server versions can be use for both proprietary and GPL development.
For those that hate anything but C++, Borland is finishing the C++Builder version of Kylix which is slated for release this year.
