Your best bet is to live in a reinforced concrete bunker (preferably underground in a tectonically stable locale). Bring lots of water as most dehydrated food tastes better with it. Put tin foil on your head so 'they' can't read your mind.

If you ever catch a cracker - poke 'em in the eye. When they ask "why?" you tell them that they were not wearing the proper protective face gear and that someone who was really mad at them could have socked 'em in the nose. You were doing them a FAVOUR! If they ever come up to you to show off their new headgear, poke 'em in the ribs and tell them that everybody is wearing full-frontal armor these days and make sure they are grateful that you weren't carrying a knife! Repeat as necessary until they get the point, or society as a whole crumbles. (and reinforce that bunker again).

"Gee mcleodnine, why so much anger?"

Both phone lines ring several times EVERY morning with a fax machine on the other end.

"But all you have to do is tell them to stop"

After they tell me to stop poking them in the eye.
