I would like to install RedHat 7.0 (workstation) on my laptop - unfortunately the lap top does not have a CD ROM (Internal or External) I would like to do a floppy (3 1/2") install if possible.

Does anyone know how I would go about this?

Any help would be great!!! Thanks,

.CLOY.

You have several options...

1. FTP install - you can do this from ftp.redhat.com or any other anonymous FTP server that has Redhat 7.0 on it. It can be on the internet or on your local network.
Your laptop will require a supported network card and network access

2. Floppy install - not your best option.. will take forever.

3. External harddrive - There are backpack drives that you may be able to hook to your laptop's serial or parallel support and install from. There are also external CDROM's that might work.

Me too

I would also like to find out how to install linux from a bunch of floppies.

I have a Linksys 10/100 ethernet card plugged into a PCMCIA slot, and the boot floppy asks for a driver disk that I dont have and can't find on-line.

I don't know what else to do but to install from all floppies and then use another machine to download and create the driver and then install it by hand.

Exactly what model of Linksys card is this?

What version of Linux are you trying to use?

A Linux install from floppy of anything other than the most BASIC system is going to be a real pain in the butt. It might not even be supported on some distributions anymore. I think Debian and Slackware used to have a setup for floppy install, but that was quite a few versions back.

A better option for you would be to borrow another NIC card that you can get working.. do the NFS/FTP install and then get the other one working. Maybe you could even do this by borrowing a backpack CDROM or zip drive or something. As a matter of fact.... http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/mini/I...-From-ZIP.html
