How did you originally install Linux? Most likely it is already configured to support unless during the install you did a custom install and check marked off sound or media services. You can check out the kernel howto at

http://www.opensound.com for sound resources regarding sound and drivers within linux and see if your card is supported, on which whatever card you have. Drakconf I am not sure of but may have a utility to configure your sound within Mandrake. Check out mandrakes web site at
