Kernel daemon

Hi

I am running redhat 7.0.
In am attempt to configure my nic (3com 3c509b) I ran "control_panel", selected kernel daemon configuration and added:
eth0 3c509 Io=230 irq=5

This configuration did not work.
Now I would like to try a different approach to configuring my nic and want to remove this device from the kernel configuration.
The problem is that whenever I remove it, it keeps on showing up the next time I run kernel configuration?????

Please help me to remove this.

I am not sure what you are referring to in your orginal post but... unless you have recompiled the kernel, I think support for your card is included. Try running 'netconfig' and see if it sets things up.

I'm not sure how the RedHat "control_panel" works, nor do I know how to remove your settings. What I do know is if your kernel is built to support the 3c509 card then all you should have to do is add a append line to your /etc/lilo.conf file like so:

append = "ether=11,0x300,4,0x3c509,eth0"

irq,address,mode,card,interface

Mode 4 is 10BT

I've got two 509s in my linux machine and they work great.

Every time my pc boot it gives me a error [failed] for eth0.
How do I fix/remove this.

try configuring your NIC with 'netconfig' or some other way. It may just need setting up.

Then I would have to guess that perhaps your NIC is not having its driver loaded.

Does it show 'eth0' being detected at startup? What does it show when you do an 'lsmod'? What does your /etc/modules.conf look like?
