I am having problems for my modem to respond

>echo "ATDTXXX-XXXX/1" > /dev/cua1
(XXX-XXXX is my phone number)

Message I got--

tty_io.c: process 606(bash) used obsolete /dev/cua1
update software to use /dev/ttyS1

What does this mean?
What shall I do?

Thanks so much.

Try using /dev/ttyS1 for your modem. Is it on COM port 2? The device you are trying to contact does not appear to be present and I have never seen a reference to /dev/cu1.

Actually, you may be trying to use the old way of accessing your com ports. Try using /dev/ttyS1 as it says.
