Upgrading from ipchains to iptables

I have set up an iptables ruleset of sorts.

Some of the questions I have:

1) I have read their are problems using iptables with the 2.4.2 kernel, anyone know?

2) I currently use ipchains and read that redhat won't load iptables if ipchains pre-exsist, to unload can you use a rpm command or rm all ipchains and should you flush the ipchains (i suspect wouldn't have to flush if removed).

So anyone with redhat that has upgraded their ruleset without a fresh install please help.

I trie iptables and got errors and I have ipchains.

It was indeed tricky, I started with RH7 and 2.2-16 kernel with ipchains. I then recompiled to 2.4.2, and nothi8ng seemed to work properly. I stuffed my PC and reinstalled, then recompiled. Removed ipchains, installed tables, blagged the script from tha boingworld site (in a number of posts on this site), and all works swimmingly.
