My apache is installed under /var/lib/apache. Under that directory there is a directory called conf containing all the configuration files. In the file httpd.conf file there should be a line called "DocumentRoot" the directory after this will be the default directory for apache requests.
You can also setup different "virtual servers" that will route the request to a different directory depending on the url given. Even if you have only one domain name you still can route request like "manual.me.com" or "friend.me.com" to different directories.
It's very simple to setup. There are good comments in the httpd.conf file and the Apache manual is also great. It may be on your machine under the docs directory.
