whenever i connect to any ftp server i get a weird auth msg. like this is me connecting to sourceforge... :

[val@24-168-135-170 cron.d]$ ftp ftp.sourceforge.net
Connected to download.sourceforge.net.
220 ProFTPD Server (ftp2.sourceforge.net)
500 AUTH not understood.
500 AUTH not understood.
KERBEROS_V4 rejected as an authentication type
Name (ftp.sourceforge.net:val): anonymous
331 Anonymous login ok, send your complete e-mail address as password.

and obviously, i'm confused about the:
500 AUTH not understood.
500 AUTH not understood.
KERBEROS_V4 rejected as an authentication type
part.
