I'm pretty sure my network card is working right, here's what ifconfig -a returns :

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:00:E8:97:09:0A
UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS RUNNING MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:4 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
Interrupt:5 Base address:0xd400

lo Link encap:Local Loopback
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:3924 Metric:1
RX packets:16 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:16 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0

I'm trying to connect to my @home cable service. In windows, all I need to specify is my hostname given to me by my isp (cx.....-a) and set dchp to on in the bindings for my card. I'm trying to do the equivalent here in netconf.

This links to a screen grab of my Netconf screen:

http://www.gnd-0.com/Netconf.gif

When I accept these changes I get a dialog prompting me if I want to restart networking on eth0. When I say yes, the command times out.

I'm dual booting Windows 2000 and Mandrake. My internet connection works fine in windows.

Can someone please help me fix this ??

if you're eth0 is set up properly try doing

/sbin/dhcpcd -h "number @Home gave you"

for me it'd be

/sbin/dhcpcd -h cr71431-a

I had the same query, now resolved, thanks!

To let other Mandrake 8.0 users know, the installation process didn't automatically install the DHCP client for me. So if you get a "command not found" when trying to do the dhcpcp , simply put CD 1 into your machine and as root do:

rpm -i dhcp-2.0pl5-6mdk.i586.rpm
rpm -i dhcp-client-2.0pl5-6mdk.i586.rp

Then it works!
