I have just installed Mandrake 8.0 on my laptop and it is the first distribution that I have tried that setup X properly. However, I now have two other problems. I can't get sound to work (Yamaha OPL-SAx) - whenever I run the config tool for it, I get the error message saying:

"ModProbe: can't find module isa-pnp"

I know it's installed because I checked.

The second thing is my printer. I have an Epson Stylus Color 600. The system can't detect the printer and I have manually selected the relevant driver, but to no avail. This is frustrating as both Sound and Printer worked fine under RH6.2, it was just X that gave me problems then!!

I thought maybe there was a problem with Linux setting up my parallel port because I am also having trouble setting up my scanner, but that's another story!

This looks like a tricky one. You could try running modprobe from the command line while providing the full path to the modules eg:
modprobe /lib/modules/linux-2.2.17/path to isa-pnp module

Then try using the configuration utility.
