I am having a problem with squid and/or the SuSE firewals package. I am using a linux box as a proxy machine for a small network of windows machines (sorry). With the firewall disabled I am able to browse the web via port 3128 (the squid default). When the firewall is enabled, I can only browse the web if I have collected my mail or done something else that uses DNS.

I am using my ISPs dns servers with no local nameserver. Any ideas?

I'm no expert on firewalls, so perhaps this might be usefull to you too...

I had the need for a router/firewall system aswell, and tries all sorts of stuff like customizing RH6.2 but that was way to difficult to understand for me yet... Tried looking for other solutions, the LRP fro instance, but still it wasn't really for newbies.. and then I saw the light
Freesco, a single floppy router/firewall especially for newbies, does the work, easy to configure and maintain, runs of floppy or HD, really nice...

suse firewall and squid

I have a suse firewall server running squid.. To make them work together, you have to adjust the suse firewall configuration
