Alright, I have a problem. I installed Linux on my laptop, which is a Dell Latitude CPt c series with a 333mhz blah blah blah....
Well everything worked fine...well first I tried to install Red Hat 6.2, and this is what happens.
the install starts and when the graphic install comes up...its huge, I can't see everything and when i move the mouse around, it doesn't go across the screen to look at parts of the screen that I can't see.
Anyways, I said to hell with it and started to install 6.0 without the graphic install. Everything installed and when I configured X again, and the test, it did it again, when it prompts you to click the do you see this message, it was huge. So I was tired and just left it as that, it booted okay, I didn't attempt to startx but I know it is going to be large.
Has anyone seen or know how to fix this with a laptop. I don't know for sure if the + or - to change the screen zoom will work yet. I just want to know if anyone knows a quick fix or what so I can boot into the GUI. I did try to changed resolutions but that didn't seem to work.
Any help is appreciated.
Okay, I am not totally for sure if the video card is supported under Linux or RedHat 6.0, but when I do the Xconfigurator, it does probe a NeoMagic card, but not the one I have.
Originally I tried 6.2 install but the graphic install was so large, I couldn't see everything. Is there anyway I can install RedHat 6.2 without the Graphic install?
I also found resources from the linux on laptops homepage where they had posts of xf86config files of how they had their laptops configured with the same Dell model as mine. That didn't seem to work, I worked out all the bugs after editing the file several times and now it doesn't give any errors but just goes to a blank screen and hangs.....I can't switch terminals at this time either. I can't find anything on this video card either, Dell just points you to contact RedHat and they have nothing on this either.
If someone could tell me a way to bypass the Graphic install on 6.2 which might have drivers for this card or not, I could give it a try.
I don't have my laptop with me so I really can't remember any other settings that might be helpful.
Okay, I installed RedHat 6.2, with the text based install, just type in text at the install prompt, but here goes again, it went thru the install just fine and it even flashed that it found my NeoMagic 256ZX card, now comes select your monitor, I tried everything, from custom to LCD display from their lists, after giving up, the GUI is still huge, its like a 320x280 resolution or something....way to big to do anything in, and of course being on a laptop, anyone know of a way to make it so I could zoom in or out, I can't use my + or - since it is a laptop and I would have to shift to use them since I don't have a num pad.
Is there a way to change these settings of the + or - zoom in xf86config file....?
Please help someone, I don't want to use Windows all the time on this laptop.

During the install there is a checkbox that say Customize X configuration. Did you check this box? It should give you the option to pick a resolution. If you didn't you can just run one of the X configuration programs and pick a resolution.
I have tried many resolutions, actually almost all of them many of times.....hmmmmm....
If I only brought my laptop to work, I still think there is a way to configure the zoom + and - within the GUI in the xf86config file. Anybody for sure or am I out of luck on that possiblilty.
