Go into your bios setup(when you start the computer, the 1st screen will tell you what key to press to enter setup)and look for a boot device setting. If your bios is new enough you should be able to set the boot device sequence to somthing like:
first boot device=cd-rom
second boot device=floppy
third boot device=hard drive
Or,alternatively:
boot device sequence=cd-rom,floppy,c:\
It all depends on whos bios is on your computer. If you can change it,make the cd-rom drive the 1st device in the boot device sequence.
While you're in there, you may want to disable plug and play, but that may depend on what version of Linux you are trying to install.HTH

Question

Did you buy a retail version of Linux or is it an iso image made from a download?
Do other cds run okay on your system?
If this is going to be a dual-boot system and you have windows already installed, check your cd drive in device manager and see if autoplay is checked.
If you are trying to boot cleanly from the cd-rom and it wont recognize it,try booting from a win9x installation cd-rom.If that works, you probably have a bad disk.

levo - This may be a stupid question, (I have done this a couple of time) are you sure you have Disk-1 in when you boot your machine ?

Just a thought.
