Hi,
Iam looking for a good distribution to do the following.
1. Connect to internet using cable modem (@home)
2. Oracle 8i (development only...not for prod)
3. Run Apache and Tomcat
4. Network with other systems ( at home )
5. Should be able to replace most of my windows needs completely. (DVD, Word documents, spreadsheet, DVD, CD Burner)
6. Learn abut Linux administration and device driver programming
I am presently running RH 7.0 and am looking to install 8i on it. From the information that I have gathered so far and from the advise I got from the experts for my other posts in this forum, I am of the opinion that RH 7.0 is buggy and is also not suitable for installing 8i. One of the options suggested to me was to downgrade to 6.2....Now will 6.2 handle my other needs like connecting to the internet thru cable modem, etc? Or is there an other distribution that would be a better fit for me?
I would like to seek your suggestion on this, folks. Your suggestions are most appreciated.
I would suggest RedHat 6.2. I have no problems with it and yes, 7.0 was buggy. You might want to check out 7.1 maybe though, I haven't had the time to check out but hopefully it worked out all the bugs that 7.0 had. It also is updated with the latest kernel 4.2 as well.
