The Default page is set with the DirectoryIndex directive. Something like:
Code:
 DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm

And usually by default, all the pages usually reside in the /var/www/ directory well I know of Apache 1.3.17 or something like that. And you can change this in your config file just to let you know.
If you have a default or index.html, your visitors will no longer see the Apache default page as it will be wiped out.

And for RH installs the www pages reside in /home/http/.
