Partition magic says it needs to restart in dos mode to make the changes, but it restarts and goes straight to Windows, with no changes made.

Is this because I'm using WinME?

Most likely since WinME doesn't have DOS. You might want to try a later version of Partition Magic. I have never used it but I think they have version 6.0 out or later version that might be compatible with WinME

Thanks

So if I can't get a newer version of Partition Magic, I'll have to get an older version of Windows, like Win98SE?

I would leave that up to you, I loaded ME once, reformatted after 15 minutes of messing with, same went with 2000. I stuck with just Win98 since I don't do much booting into Windows anyways. It is basically there for printing and scanner purposes.

Thanks.

I think I'll just stick to win98 then, and RH7, of course.

And how big is a windows emulator?

And where can I get it?

If your talking about a emulator for windows in Linux, then you will want Wine. Available at http://www.winehq.org and I think the last or latest version that works with RH 7 is about 4.75 MB.

You can do what you need to do with version 5.0:
You should have the option in the PartitionMagic submenu to make rescue disks.Make the floppies and boot your computer with floppy#1 and it will load dos onto ram and then prompt you to put in floppy#2.After a moment or 2,you should see the PartitionMagic program and then you can make all the changes you need.HTH
