I have RED HAT 6.1 installed on my computer (Pentium III 933 MHz, RAM: 250 MB, HD: 30 GB, etc..). I wanted to try out the new version of XFree86 and I downloaded the installing files from XFree86.org. I downloaded almost all the version from the ftp: ver. 4.0, 4.01, 4.02, 4.03, etc... I installed the new version (4.02) according to the procedures stated in the Installation readme files (by running Xintall.sh).
I guess I was succeeded in installing from the scratch the new XFree86 version. Afterwards, I set up the new version by using any setup utility (XF86Setup, xf86config, etc.).
Now when I try to run Xwindow, by the command: startx, all I get is three Xterm windows, and I am not able to start GNOME or KDE desktop manager. It seems I need to set up GNOME and KDE in order to run on the new installed XFree86 version, but I donīt know how to do it.
Any advice or tips to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance
