Question

I recently installed RH 7.1 and also installed Samba 2.0.7. Out of frustration trying to get Samba\SWAT working with xinetd (and was unable to connect to localhost:901), I installed inetd since the new distro of RH does not run inetd. I am now able to configure the smb.conf file through SWAT.

My problem at this point is that when I try to start the nmbd and smbd services, it shows them as started. When I check the status, nmbd is running but smbd is stopped.

Can anyone help me to determine why smbd will not start.

TIA,

Jeff

Question logs?

What do the logs have in them? Normally /var/log.smb and /var/log.smb

Jamie...

Here is the log. For some reason I cannot access SWAT via my browser anymore. It tells me the connection was refused by the server....I'm sure there is 1 or 2 things that I am missing but this is frustrating.

Hi
SWAT comes disabled, comment out disable=yes in /etc/xinetd.d/swat and it should work. Then you can edit smb.conf create your shares, and those errors will go away.
