Unhappy

I have a particular problem with setting up my mouse on my Linux box. The version of X escapes me... but the problem is that I am using a Serial mouse with my X server, one that is connected to ttyS1 (the second serial port). The only thing is, it acts eratic in XF86Setup and actual X. I'v tryed using an old Logitech (which didn't work at all), and TWO busmouses, both of which acted eratic. These are fairly old generic mice... I beleived they would work just fine... and help anyone can provide....
