Angry Laptop Installation

I am trying to install on a Compaq LTE 5300 with a docking station. I am putting RH7.0 and the install seems to be ok but it will not recognize the docking station serial port so I can use an external modem. if anyone has any ideas please email me. mdwalker@atomic.net

Have you checked out the obvious possibilities, like your laptop BIOS has the port enabled?

Does the port work with anything else? Say a serial mouse for instance.

I know it is active in the BIOS I got the I/O from the bios. I also have a PS2 mouse hooked to the port on the back of the docking station and it works fin (I know this is different than a serial mouse), I also have a problem with the NIC but I found some good info from the RH site that lead me to a linux laptop how-to. I found some post there that others had left that had a similar proble. It is a matter of uncommenting out the proper line in the modules.rc for an NE200 compatible network card. I will try that tonight and see if it works. thanks for the prompt post. If any one else has any other ideas about the modem don't stop posting. Thanks!

I use Linux on a laptop, but I don't have a docking station. (Unfortunately, my laptop is a Quantex and they went out of business before i could get one) I would verify that the serial port on the docking station works before I'd go any further.

Just my $0.02
