installation...810 chipset


hi...
no answers to my previous query..pls help me...

can anyone of u can help me out with a free linux 7.1 cd
plssss otherwise i would have to give up using linux....

nyways...can nyone tell me how to edit module.conf
for 810 chipset.....and how to go for it...

help

I really don't understand the question. What do you want to get working? IDE, Video, Sound? LAN? If you're already able to edit modules.conf then I guess you're halfway there. What do you want to do with the system? Server? XWindows? Firewall? What distribution are you using?


Kernel stuff... you'll need at least 2.4.2

IDE - PIIX will work
Video - plain-jane VGA until you can get to some kernel building.

I had no trouble at all installing on the i815 chip. Some kernel compiling made things faster.

So unless I consult a psychic to see what you want you'll have to fill in some blanks here.

memory probs....

first of all i don't know how to edit module.conf...

and i tried to see how much of my memory ram is detected by
linux

instead of 128M it detects only 13M...what to do....tired of
passing parameter at lilo boot....and even this doesn't work..

help

Uhhhh... memory problems in linux only or detected by the BIOS?

don't know how to find out whether bios or linux memory probs

i don't know which prob is it...linux or bios...know only that
it doesn't detect my memory

don't know what to do with gnome

i got my ram prob solved.....and then installed
x window system and also configured my sound card..
Thanks for u r help.

But now when i log in as a root and start Xwindows system..
by startx......gnome starts.....but don't know why
no icons no panel no taskbar.....comes....only color
comes and control panel comes......dont know what to do
to restore original gnome desktop....i think i made
some changes..when i logged in X window system for first
time.....

don't remember those changes......but i wanna get my default
gnome back...
