StarOffice 5.2 installation

I am new to Linux and have a question on how to install StarOffice 5.2. I downloaded it from Sun and have no idea how to get the install utility to run. RPM's and tar files are not a problem, but this is a *.bin file and I have exhausted my (limited) knowledge. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Arrow .bin

I was just looking for the answer to the exact same question...

somebody told me that a .bin-file is a CD-image (like an ISO)
can anybody confirm that ?

A .bin file is normally just a binary of some kind. You can always use the file command to tell you what the system recons the file is. I haven't got any experience with Star Office, but do you have a file called something like install.bin? In which case just try
Code:
./install.bin
to execute it.

I had to change permissions (chmod +x) to get mine to go.

Smile Trying to make things harder than they are!

Onec permissions are set, the file does not need to be run from the command line (at least not in Gnome). Just double-click the file and it installs! ALso, there is no ./install file. it is executable.

I think they were just using ./install.bin as a example, not knowing the exact name of the file to be installed. also, yes, sun makes it so you always need to chmod 777 in order to run it most of the time and install it, well, that is from their install instructions from their site.
