problem/need file.

I finally got to where i *could* install the drivers for my modem, but when I do, it tells me i need libc.so.5. i have mandrake 7.2 that runs off of libc.so.6. could i install libc.so.5 and not encounter any problems? btw, if anyone has that file and would like to upload it to like a geocities site (or knows of a direct link) for me, i'd appreciate it. you don't have to if it's more than 1.4 mb, because i have no other way to transfer files to my comp other than by floppy.

I had similar prob with some file called ld.so.1
Now one app required that file and was refusing to install without that .
I manually copied the file but still the prob continued
I suggest you search the specific rpm in rpmfind.net

yopu can even search for the dependency at rpmfind.net. If you search for ld.so, it will tell you what rpm it is part of. Many times I find that I don't need to download anything, it just tells me what package I need to look for on my installation disks.

I just looked ld.so up and it turns out that the name of the package IS ld.so. It is a pretty important package that surprises me that it is not already installed. It is the Linux dynamic library linker.
