trouble pls help BZFlag crashes no error message that I can find

I am running Mandrake 8.0, GA-7IXE4 mother board, ATI Xpert 2000 video card which Mandrake sees as Rage-128 and seems to work fine in KDE, tux racer, it seems to work.

I want to play bzflag, I have the newest, and some nights I can play for hours, but other nights I get system lock ups.

I have tried looking through /var/log/messages and all I find preceding the sysrq emergency reboot is kernal undo loss and some options. I think this is modem stuff.

I have tried running bzflag 2> bzferror.log and all the log gets is konsole could not connect, the game starts and runs and maybe locks up, but the error log has nothing in it other than some vague indication that I'm not really logging errors.

on bzflag start up from terminal I get some messages in the terminal about objects sizes do not match and the suggestion that I relink them, but I don't understand what that means.

sometimes bzflag works and sometimes it dosn't and the times that it dosn't is makeing me crazy.

please, help me figure out why it's not working

try by giving us some error mesages to chew on.
start ure prog with "bzflag 2>&1 > bz-error.log"
this will log both std-out msg's and errors to the file.

OK, I have a icon on my desktop to start bzflag and I have changed in the execute tab so it reads bzflag 2>&1 > bz-error.log

I tried it a couple of times and no error log is generated, but it didn't crash either. Thank you for that string I was trying bzflag 2 > bzerror.log
What does the &1 do? your piping the errors to the log through ... well what does the 2 mean and I believe that & makes it a background process but what does the 1 do? I know the > are pipes, I think.

Anyway now next time it locks up, I can be happy that I might have an error message to deal with.

Since my last post I have downloaded the src.rpm from www.bzflag.org and done rpm --rebuild and installed the rpm it created in usr (i think)/src/i686

There are far less problems now. I don't know why but I suspect the rebuilding made it more fit for my machine. I have verified that I have all the required librarys like mesa and such. But during the rebuild I got lots of warnings something to the effect nonull is no longer supported. I ignored these, well I didn't ignore them I worried greatly but since I didn't know any better I installed the rpm it created, and it seems better now. Are those warnings important?

Now a related problem, I want to start bzfs the bzflag server when the computer starts up. I want my children to be able to play bzflag, but not over the internet for now.

What I am looking for is how do I add a line bzfs +f good -h -j -ms 3 +r -r +s 6 -sa -st 10 -t to the "autoexec.bat" file only in linux. Does that make sense?

I tried chkconfig --add bzfs but chkconfig didn't like that.
