make files


tried to run mae on a module for and adsl modem called sarlib.

when I run make I get reply

no rule to make target /usr/src/linux/.config


any ideas i used to know how to correct this but have forgotten.

Where are you running make from - what dir? It sounds like its expecting to find a kernel config file that ain't there to me.

Did your type it like this make /usr/src/linux/.config?
Then it's wrong.

You should only have the change to the directory containing the Makefile and then type make without arguments.
This makes the command make to look for a file called Makefile in the current working directory.
This is the file containing information on the actual making/compilation of the program.

the make file contains the dir string.

I just ran 'make' and that is what happened.


if that is wrong idea's as to what it should point to?

were there any configure scripts that you had to run before you tried make? i had this error when i was first learning how to compile packages, and didn't know to run the configure script first.

just making sure

I Have jsut found that the MakeFile that was include had '.h'
missing off the end of the file I was looking for.

i.ee it should have been /usr/...../config.h
they forgot the .h

but cheers for the help guys
