Angry XFree86 refuses to recognize mouse

Okay, I absolutely cannot get XFree86 to recognize my mouse...I've been trying to install OpenLinux 2.4 for the first time but have yet to see any GUI because I can't get past this part of the setup because XFree86 absolutely refuses to recognize either of my mice. First off, Lizard can't see my usb mouse and XFree86 doesn't seem to support them...so I put in a serial mouse...well I got it working in DOS but Linux can't seem to find it. Besides the mouse I'm ripping and a raring to go into KDE but I CAN'T because I'm frickin stuck. Any solutions?!? (Besides get a new motherboard which I'm thinking may be the only answer)
