XFree86 4.1 Installation

When the install script tries to extract the xkb library, it complains that it can't link to the /etc/X11/xkb directory. Hence, once the install is done, I can't start the X server becausre it can't load the keyboard map (xkb). Is there anyway to manually link the two directories? Or is the process more involved? (Might it also be mentioned that I am installing overtop an older RPM installation (4.0.3)).

i got the same error when i upgraded to 4.1, but my keyboard worked fine when i started X. check your /etc/XF86Config file... does it specify a keyboard map?

if it's just a problem with linking the directory, just use :

ln -s olddirectory newlink
