Top reports > 100% Memory use by X

Hi
I've been having an annoying problem with X. Every time I leave my computer
on, runnin X for more than a day or two, the memory usage skyrockets and so
does the swap usage. At times I have 140% of my memory used by X according
to top. Now I've heard how linux uses all the available memory for caching
blah blah blah but the point is the system slows to a crawl and it feels
like being in cough Windows because I have to either kill the X server or
reboot to get any kind of decent performance. Anyways here's the system:
P3 550
192 Megs of ram (I thought it'd be enough)
Tyan Trinity 400 mobo
RH 7.1 w/ 2.4 kernel
KDE 2.1
XFree 4.0.3

Thanks.

Have you checked your log files and running processes to see if you can spot a likely resource-hogging suspect?

Yeah

Huh? It says that X is the thing gobbling up all that memory. Or am I being stupid?
