Total newbie!

So can you help me out with the things I need to get afully operational Linux??? I need to be able to surf the web and have all my cards functional. I´m a total newbie so pleaase help me out!

i think mandrake 8 is pretty good for newbies at linux, it'll be easier to detect your hardware when u install so everything will work and u can learn how to use it without getting frustrated cause u can't get like your sound card to work or something, that way u won't go back to windoze

i'd suggest that you check out the distribution forum... it's got some good suggestions on who should use what distribution. if you get one with a good install package, like redhat or suse, you'll probably be fine. avoid debian and slackware if you're a complete newbie

This is when you should do some research, find out what you need and what distro to use. Read up on it, Linux that is, and go from there. If you buy a distro, they usually have install manuals, follow that and then when you run into problems, come ask for help on a particular problem. Dropping a line like you did above, someone could go on for days on getting your stuff working properly or explaining on how to get it working.
Questions to vague will not get a good response on questions that are in detail.

In my experience Mandrake 8.0 will detect almost all of your hardware, with perhaps the only exceptions being modem and printer.

If you have a winmodem (Lucent etc), then go for Mandrake 8.0 because you can get a driver which installs with no hassle whatsoever, whereas fully-fuctioning drivers don't exist for some other packages.

wazzzup playboy....If I was u i would start off with Mandrake 8.0 or better yet 7.1, Not that much to it when u do the initial install...Its the teakin that will get u. I agree....I would read about it first, its a whole diff world when u step to the light.

Already tested Mandrake but it wouldn´t work for some reason, trying Caldera now.

Hmm, you don´t happen to know how I can get my ADSL con workin´on either Suse, Mandrake or Caldera distr???

Getting ADSL to run shouldn't be that complicated: I am using Suse 7.2 and the setup tool yast2 has a full suite of dialogs to deal with setting up ADSL-Connections. Seems pretty well organized. Have fun!
