Question AFS Config. Using single sign on

Does anyone have any knowledge of configuring AFS to use kerberos. I have it using kerberos to log onto machines, and to grab afs tokens at the same time. This is what I want...unfortunately, when the kerberos servers are down, I can not get onto the machine.

IBM says to use the following in the /etc/security/user file:

SYSTEM = AFS or (AFS[UNAVAIL] and compat[SUCCESS])

but this doesnt seem to work...it authenticates fine using afs with this, but it doesnt seem to fall back to compat (local authentication) as it should.

anyone familiar with AFS? can anyone help me out?

/fenny
