sendmail problem

I am trying to setup sendmail on my PC. Now whenever I try mailing
I get following error :

<nikhil@joshi.home>... Domain of sender
address nikhil@joshi.home does not exist)

Why sendmail is giving my address as nikhil@joshi.home
(my login name is nikhil and my hostname is joshi.home)

My real email address is nikhiljoshy@yahoo.com

I have used option MASQUERADE_AS('yahoo.com') in the file
/etc/mail/sendmail.mc and re-generated /etc/sendmail.cf

I made /etc/userdb.db file using the file /etc/userdb having following
contents:
nikhil:mailname nikhiljoshy@yahoo.com
nikhiljoshy:maildrop nikhil

Please help me.

At the risk of insulting your intelligence you do have you mail tool set to use localhost as your SMTP server right? Not whatever your ISPs relay is? The only other thing I can think of is that Sendmail isn't recognising your loacal domain. This isn't something I've ever played with so check out http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/mini/S...s-Rewrite.html if you haven't already.

HTH

Actually I use Kmail and I have two options for sending mail:
1.Sendmail
2.SMTP

I tried to give SMTP address as joshi.home i.e.my hostname but Kmail
simply hanged.

Using localhost as your SMTP relay and using sendmail is effectively that same thing as it will go through your sendmail rules anyway... Locally calling sendmail does make a lot more send than making an SMTP connection to localhost - my brain clearly wasn't 100% when I wrote my previous post!

After you recreated your sendmail.cf did you remember to restart sendmail so it took some notice of the changes?

just a few thoughts
