Red face I Need A Picture Please (include Text)


Hi I want to learn how to mount .tar.gz. Perhaps I'm not saying it right even. I have found several programs i either just want or really need and they all have this extension. Could someone at least point me to a how to do this place. A how to do this that presumes I know absolutely nothing please. Thanks

a tar.gz file is comparable to a zip file.

the tar part is used to group all of the original files into one "tar" file

the gz part is to apply compression to the files.

to extract this kind of archive you need to do the following...

tar xvzf FILENAME

and read the README file that is found inside so you can find out what to do next.

Perhaps if you let some else post a reply instead, maybe he will understand better or get different openion.
If you are that much helpfull, then maybe you can post the link to the previous thread or post instead of replying again..

nabil, if you didn't think that he/she understood maybe you should have posted a different explanation instead of a complaint. (or followed your own advice and posted a link to the previous thread)

Thank you! The mandrake.org is the exact thing I wanted. I printed it out and all the "If's that didn't work" also. I got this and actually installed a few and then my system crashed. OH well new thread...I have some ideas why it's java related had other problems with that program before. Will be back probably with new thread when I have all the info. But for right now that site is absolutely super!! Everyone should know about this!
