Question Problems with Creative Vibra16X soundcard and Slack 8.0

Ok my soundcard is a vibra16x and I downloaded the dos diagnose program from the soundblaster ppl and I know the following is correct.

irq=10 io=0x220 dma=1 mpu_io=0x300

so that is what's exactly in my /etc/rc.d/rc.modules file

/sbin/modprobe irq=10 io=0x220 dma=1 mpu_io=0x300

The module runs fine during boot-up (no error is given) and it says something like SoundBlaster 4.16 Detected

When i attempt to use it say like this:

mpg123 crappy_soundcard.mp3

It acts like its playing it, but no sound comes out and I cranked the volume on my speakers, so its not that.

Any bright ideas? I'm all out.

Thanks in advance,

Ontrose

Sounds like the volume is defaulting to zero... if you have X windows up and running go into that and find one of the audio mixers, and put the volume up. Also your modprobe line works?!? It doesn't mention any modules - only settings!

I'm sure there must be a command line volume control, but I have no idea what it is!

cheers

Jamie...

It wasn't the volume thing, so I just compiled the new kernel with support for my card and its working now!

edit: thats the 2.4.5 kernel
