Question Getting started with homenetworking Linxux and Mac

Could anyone give me an overview of things I will need to do in order to get the following things goin'-on. I'm running RedHat 7.1 (only) on 1 machine and Mac OSX and(9.1) on a G4. I have a DSL connection and both boxes are hooked up to a DSL router and both using DHCP. I want to be able to use the Linux box as a print server and hopefully be able to "network" between the two. This is (for now) strictly for home use. Is is possible to access each machine from the other? Also, really confused on the IP address thing. Both machines show the same IP address. Should I set a static ip on the Linux box and leave the Mac to use DHCP. Using an Asante DSL router.
