I've looked EVERYWHERE for an answer to this problem... couldn't find anything!
I've got the /boot partition on the BOTTOM of the hardrive(cylinder 0-25 or something like that) and after I installed RedHat 7.1, everything works fine but one thing... LILO(yes the dreaded LILO!!!!!). When I try to boot up I get the dreaded L lockup.. just plain L. So I did all my Linux stuff on floppy... but I can't get into Windows ME. I read some stuff about fdisk and tried formating the /mbr with fdisk...
I went into the Linux command prompt and entered "fdisk /mbr" it said "Unable to open mbr". On RedHat install I got an error on installing LILO
It said "/dev/hdd is not on the first disk" Thing is, I've only got ONE 30 gig hard drive on there....
When I use the command "lilo -U" it says
"Warning: /dev/hdd is not on the first disk"
So how do I get rid of this blasted LILO thing.. what I want to do is run WindowsME on default and when I want to use Linux I just pop in the boot disk, or install LoadLin... But I can't even get into ME...
What you can try is to boot up with a Windows boot up disk, wipe out the MBR, same command ( fdisk /MBR ), then the easiest thing to do from there is it should or you should be able to boot now from the Linux floppy whenever you want to boot into it. Try that, if all else fails, let us know and we'll go from there.
You can probably create one or bootup with the Windows ME cd most likely and get to a prompt if you can't find a floppy bootup, that is all in consideration if you can even boot to cd rom though.
