I'm booting from an iso I burned. The disk boots fine. After I select the workstation installation I get a box which reads:
The partition table on device hda is corrupted. To create new partitions it must be initialized, causing the loss of all data on this drive.
After I hit the Initialize button nothing happens! It never goes into the partitioning software.
I can install Mandrake to this disk with no problem. I've tried partitioning with Partition Magic and that works fine.
No matter which installation (even Upgrade) I chose I still get the modal dialog complaining about a corrupt partition table. I can create a partition with Partition Magic and then go to the Red Hat installation and it still complains. I have tried three different hard drives. Either Red Hat doesn't like my computer or I'm missing something.
My computer is a PII - 450Mhz with AMI Bios and an Intel i440BX chipset. I am also using a Trios Hard Drive Selector which allows me to select one of three drives by pushing a button before boot-up.
I did a search on Google and I got an exact match on your error message. It was on VMWare's site and it said that if you get this message that nothing is wrong. It just means that the drive needs to be partitioned and formatted. Just select Initialize and press < ENTER> and continue with the installation. Which it doesn't for you. One last idea. Maybe it doesn't like your Trios Hard Drive Selector.
I connected my third hard drive directly to the mother board, thus bypassing my Trios drive selector and Red Hat partitioned and installed without incident!
I also blew in an email to Romtec the makers of the Trios and they acknowledged that their drive selector had caused problems with Red Hat 7.1 installations. They offered to replace it if I couldn't get Red Hat to work with their selector.
By the way, Red Hat installed beautifully and automatically configured my cable modem. I was on the web minutes after I finished the installation. I was impressed.
