Question X on a laptop - problems

Hi,

I'm having trouble configuring X on my laptop. I installed Suse on a Asus laptop but I can't get the resolution higher than 640x480 which is real low to work in good conditions, any help ?

Thank you very much,

TC

you will want to find out what type hardware you have and check out its compatibility at www.xfree86.org and see if you might need an upgrade to fully support your graphics card and monitor for the laptop.
that is all in oocordance if you tried several different configs with xf86config or if you tried using SaX for SuSe to configure your display and X.

Lot's of questions here:

Mainly, do you know the make of the video card in the laptop and how muuch memory it has installed?

Next, what version of XFree86 are you running?

I've installed Linux on a laptop many times, and XFree86 upgrades are always a challenge so don't be too discouraged. If you have XFree86 4.0.x, try using the GUI config tool XF86Setup. That helped a lot in getting my resolution up to par when I upgraded from 3.3.6.

Good luck.
