Question

I have a Compaq Presario computer, 486 25Mhz, that I would like to make a proxy server.

I've installed Linux over the NFS with the packages needed and Lilo couldn't install itself on the MBR.

Ok, I've tried to boot it over LOADLIN by a DOS prompt, it goes everything well until this line:

Code:
CPU: 486
No coprocessor found and no math emulation present.
Giving up.
and stops.

Anybody knows what's going wrong? What should I do? Break the computer is out of question.

Thanks in advance,

You must have a 496 SX

The short answer is "the kernel you used was optimized so that it required a math coprocessor to be present." A 486sx is a 486 with the math coprocessor removed (Intel marketing trick to make cpu's sell for less). You need to use a kernel that has coprocessor emulation.
