For some reason every time i try to do "rpm -i <filename>" it always tells me that it can only install files with major numbers <= 3...anybody got a way to remedy this and/or tell me what it means....
RH7?
redhat uses in their RH7 distro the rpm-version 4.
Check it with an "rpm -q rpm"
you need a rpm-version that supports rpm-version 4.
take a look at the redhat website.
It's a catch 22. You need to upgrade your RPM, but guess what? The RPM that upgrades RPM itself gives the same exact <= 3 type message. I downloaded the tarball and it gave me some cryptic error message during the make install. I didn't have time to hack it so at this point I'm looking for an RPM v4 binary from someone else that I can at least use to get past the chicken and egg situation.
