Hello, I am an extreme newbie to Linux. I'm currently trying to set up a Linux system to support File and Print sharing with a peer-to-peer network using Windows 98. I have already installed SAMBA 2.07 from the Red Hat 7 Installation disc, but to no noticeable effect.

The IP address for my Windows machine is 10.10.78.54
The IP address for my Linux machine is 10.10.77.54
The Subnet mask for my Windows machine is 255.255.0.0
I THINK the subnet mask for my Linux machine is also 255.255.0.0, but I don't know how to verify this.
The text name my Windows machine uses is "Chris". The name of the workgroup is TKCorp.

Any Help would be appreciated.

To verify your IP setting run the command 'ifconfig'.
This will show you all interfaces that are up and running.

To make anything visible on your Win-box you will have to set up some file/printer shares.
This can be done in linuxconf. Run linuxconf from the command line or from the "start"-menu.

There is an interface called eth0, which I am told is good.

Well, I've tried linuxconf in the past, but it's not exactly the most user-friendly system I've ever seen. Let's say I want my Win98 machine "chris" (subnet: 255.255.0.0/ IP: 10.77.78.54) to be able to see /Public in my linux machine. How would you suggest I go about this exactly?

Hi,

I can now see my Linux machine in my Windows Network neighborhood--but I can't access any of the files. I keep getting an error that says "The specified computer did not receive your request. Try again later." Also, any idea how I can browse my Windows shared resourced from Linux?
