I was using my comp/server to telnet to the main
server in the same network...i was editing some files when the server suddenly got hanged...so i couldnt do anything but to reboot it....and when i finally logged on to my server, i found out that when i tried to ping to another host in the network, i got this:

from bonggo (x.x.x.x): Destination Host Unreachable

i still can ping myself...but now i couldnt ping /telnet to all the hosts in the network!!

why is this happening???help me!! i'm using redhat linux ....

/var/log/messages is always the one that I check first. I am pretty sure that everything is logged in there except for mail, news and apache logs.

when you ping yourself are you trying to ping 127.0.0.1 or are you trying to ping your network address?

You can also try entering in ifconfig eth0 to see if your network settings are correct.

when i ping myself, i ping my own ip...(10.x.x.x)...but i couldnt ping other hosts in the network...

what do you think?

oh, i've tried ifconfig eth0...basically the configuration is correct, but i noticed this:

RX packets: 1326 errors: 0 dropped: 0 overruns: 0 frame :0
TX packets: 9 errors: 0 dropped: 0 overruns : 0 carrier: 0 collisions:0 txqueuelen: 100

??

Hmm, perhaps your gateway/routing info got hosed. type "route" and make sure the addresses are correct.
