Question

Hello,
This is my first time here and also my first time using linux so this may seem like a simple question to most of you. How do I get swat to run on RH7?! I assumed it would be setup and ready to go but when I try to get to localhost:901 nothing comes up and Netscape does a search on localhost901. What files do I have to modify? I looked in the xinetd swat file and everything looks like it is the default do any on these need to be changed?

Thanks,
Justin Fisk

A popular problem!
Comment out disable=yes in /etc/xinetd.d/swat, and it should work. However as you have RH7, it will probably have activated total isolation firewalling, so either temporarily disable it or sort it properly.
Back up the original /etc/samba/smb.conf, and tinker away.
Check out http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel...ba/samba1.html
for a good howto for those of us who are not network gurus.

Oh and you may need to tell netconfig that your server is the DNS for local network requests too

I too am trying to make SWAT work, and have followed this thread. How does one tell the server is the DNS for local network requests? Is that in the "Names" tab?
Thanks.

A while back ago I had problems with SWAT not wanting to run although my error differed from yours heres what I found ....I had upgraded to SAMBA 2.2 using the RedHat RPM my 7.0 distro looks for SWAT in...usr/share/samba/swat
the RPM installed files in... /usr/share/swat
kept getting 400 SERVER ERROR
copied files to correct directory and problem solved
