I am trying to install Linux Mandrake - lnx4win onto my windows95.

Although im allocating 500mb for the native partition i get an error message not enough disk space. I tried adding more than 500mb --> 580mb still same message pops-up.

i am giving it 64mb for the swap space.

I have a 2gb hard disk with 64mb ram.

Please help.

I have run scandisk: no problems found
I have also defragged my hard drive.

What kind of install are you trying to install. A full install will not work with that much space provided. You will want to do some type of custom install and select a minimum amount of packages to be installed.
Its also a good idea always to make your swap about double the size of RAM you have installed.

I havent even got to that stage yet. It is a cut down version of the Mandrake, (things like SQL server and apache have been taken off because its a magazine cover CD, to make other things fit on the CD)

Anyway...I havent even got to the stage of installing anything yet. In the magazine it came with it says to double click "install.bat" which i did, it tries to copy the file ctl3d32.dll to the windows\system directory.

After that i get a white box to allocate space for the native partition and the swap space which I try to do.

The default size it says is 400mb. I even changed it to 580mb, when i click OK its says not enough space. Im only left to abandon installation altogether.

any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated since i even tried it a few months ago, and then left it.

Okay, really the only suggestion I can give you is get rid of that CD, they always have problems installing from the horror stories I have heard and they never install correctly.
I can suggest either download a distro from the internet, maybe an ISO image or buy one locally from a store.
