Question about Iomega ZIP 100

I don't know how to access the Iomega ZIP 100. I can see it in configuration, but I can not mount it and can not access it. What should I do. Can somebody explain it to me steb-by-step?

By the way, I forgot to tell you that I am using Linux Mandrake 7.2
The boot loader is grug (don't know how it might help, but just in case)

Hi,

Just for the record, the boot loader is grub, not grug.

I'm not sure if the kernel for mandrake 7.2 has support built in for the parallel version of the drive, but it doesn't really matter.

If the autosense worked during the install, there should be an entry for the ZIP drive in /etc/fstab. Take a look at that file to see if the install took care of configuring it.

If not, then the directions for configuring it depend on the question that rshaw asked.

Hello again

Thanks for help, I did get GRUB to work. I had to change number for the default to 4, and now it boots to windows directly. Regarding the question about the zip drive: it is external paralel zip drive. There is no entries for zip disk in fstab file. It is something strange going on with my computer. I have only two entries in fstab file for devices: floppy and cdrom. Somehow I can not read the contents of the drives (floppy and cd) from the comamnd prompt, and also I am not able to read from cdrom from the command line. It is strange. There are entries for cd and floppy in fstab file, but I can not format a floppy or read from it.
If you could help me with the problems in accessing the zip, it would be nice. I have no way of exchanging data between windows and linux. I have not installed a proper modem yet, so my computer is like a boad anchor now. Not much use of linux if I can not get files delivered to it, or I can not get to the internet. I have problems finding a cheap harware modem (ISA). By the way, can you give me an example of how the entries for the floppy, cdrom and zip disks should look like.

Voitel.

This is a familiar question! Someone else asked the same one a few days go, have a look at http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...&highlight=zip it will explain more. Basically just mount /dev/sda4 somewhere and you're sorted. (assuming you have no other SCSI disks)

HTH

it is not SCSI

I got my zip disk to work, even though it is a paralel port zip. it is recognized as scsi in my system, but it works. now I can read and write to it. I need more help with my cdrom and floppy disk. I dont' have an access to them. Do you know how I can disable automount and mount it manualy ( I will need a code of how to do that)

That becuase the parallel zip drives use the PPA parallel to SCSI chip, hence are seen as SCSI by the kernel.

Whats the automounter trying to do? I can't say I've ever played with it.

cheers

Autoloader

I don't know why, but I can not read from CDROM and can not read and write to floppy disk. I think that it is a problem with autoloader. What else it can be? Do you have some ideas?

Sounds like the automounter isn't working. You can at least mount them manually as root and make sure they're working.

I would be glad to do that, but I don't know how to do that. I know that I have to edit fstab file and put new entries in. But what should I do with the system prior to editing fstab file. If you don't mined, can you give me an example of how floppy and cd drives should be mounted on the system.

mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom

Modify as needed for your device and mount point.
The -t means the next argument is the type.
iso9660 is the type for most cdrom devices.
The next argument is the device name.
The final argument is the mount point.
