I have been running RedHat 7.0 on my computer for several months now, along with mozilla and netscape. Just recently (last night) mozilla started acting up. At first things just seemed really slow and I could hear lots of hdd activity. So I looked at my system monitor, to find that I was using both my full 128 megs of RAM and 256 megs of swap space (!). I had never seen the RAM usage get above 50%, so this alarmed me somewhat. Things just went downhill from there. The computer reacted slower and slower, and when I was finally able to get into the virtual console I had launched X from to see errors, I saw a big ugly error from mozilla, saying something about "Do you want to debug? this requires lots of memory". The really weird thing was, all of the t's and r's were missing from the text, and there were all sorts of other anomolies in the text. I couln't kill mozilla fast enough, so eventually the computer just froze into a dead halt, no hard disk activity, no response to anything. (BTW that is the first time I've crashed linux). I had to hard reset, and when I got my system up again, I found a nice big core file waiting for me. I assumed it was a one time thing, but it hasn't been. It seems to happen both in Netscape and Mozilla now, meaning I have to use lynx for most stuff. It only seems to happen when I have a few browsing windows open, but they are not at any special sites or anything. Just browsing slashdot, getting things from cnet, etc. If anyone knows at all what could be causing this, I would love to hear your ideas. My linux box is now crashing at least once a day, although sometimes I am able to kill my browser before it gets out of hand.
Thanks in advance,
