Are you using fdisk from a dos-boot disk or from linux?
Try with fdisk from linux or cfdisk from linux.

Ok!
I meant that you should try to use fdisk found on a linux boot diskette.
It should be one on your linux cd or at the distributions web site.
You could also try to use delpart found at microsoft website.

Go to http://westerndigital.com/service/ftp/drives.html and download dlgdiag.zip This will let you write zeros to the disk and start with an absolutly clean slate to repartition and format.

whenever i want to start "fresh" with a hd i make a dos startup disk, use fdisk /mbr. if you still get an error message about reading your hd, your hd probably kicked the bucket.
