Mornin All

I have a slight problem in getting Rh7 to start on my machine, firstly, when I asked it to install LILO on the /boot (16MB)partition of my hard drive, it never seemed to do so, and secondly when Rh7 prompts to install a floppy to make a boot disk during installation I get a message something like ' error when using floppy, might not be formatted etc.'

I installed RH6 in its place and that installed the LILO and made me a boot disk. Once in there I also formatted a floppy to use ext2 so when I used RH7 again I would have no problems...... never made any difference. When I put RH7 back on, it tried to use RH6 LILO and obviously wouldn't and still refused the floppy to be formatted when trying to create a boot disk???

I am in the process of installing WIN98 again and am going to try to use Partition Magic to create all the partitions required and then use Boot Magic for selecting the OS,

Good Idea or not????

For info the system is as below:

Cyrix III 500 (sorry just wanted a cheapie to get the system running)
Soltek SL65JVB-X
128Mb PC133
3Dfx Voodoo 3 3000
Pioneer 6X DVD
Standard 1.44Mb Floppy
PCTEL Internal Modem
Elsa Microlink USB Modem
Western Digital 20.4 GB 7200rpm

The only problems I can see are the USB modem and maybe the Cyrix???

Any clues about the above problem would be appreciated as I am new to all this Linux lark, looks good so far though.

Thanks

Ben

Wink

Sorted now, installed RH7 onto athlon 1gig box instead and installed perfectly, must be something to do with other board/chip combo.

Didn't like me using a GeForce 2 MX (creative) though so I put the voodoo 3 and it worked a treat.

If you want to make a boot disk for emergency purposes then all you have to do is copy the file /boot/vmlinuz to a spare floppy. That file is the one used when Linux first loads up and is the one which LILO would point to.

BTW have you managed to get your modem to work in Linux? Is it an HSP one?
